The bascinet helmet rose to prominence in the late 13th century and quickly became the preferred helmet for knights and men-at-arms throughout the 14th century. Characterized by its pointed shape, it was designed to deflect sword blows and arrows, while the hinged visor offered improved facial protection without restricting vision or breathing.
This bascinet helmet reproduces the authentic design of the visored bascinet (klappvisor), complete with a rotating visor and secured by side hinges. The front plate features riveted bands, a wide eye slit, and ventilation holes for airflow.
Internally, the bascinet helmet features a fully adjustable stitched leather lining, combined with a leather strap with a buckle for a secure fit. Weighing approximately 3.1 kg, it balances protection and fit, making it practical for historical reenactments, SCA combat, LARP events, or exhibitions.
Historically faithful in both form and use, the Bascinet helmet was often worn over a battle cap or chain mail, offering comprehensive head protection and adaptability in battle. It remains one of the most iconic helmets of the Hundred Years' War.
