Late Roman Officer's Helmet from Berkasovo
Following the typical helmet shape of the late Imperial period, this helmet found in Berkasovo (now Serbia) distinguishes itself by its rich ornamentation with gemstones and gold and silver appliqués. The many ornaments explain the helmet's considerable weight of over 4 kg. The elaborate embellishments suggest that the wearer was most likely an officer of the highest rank.
Our helmet is equipped with a red leather inlay. The ornaments are made of glass. The cheek guards and the nape of the neck are padded on the inside.
